Doncler’s deeper atmosphere

Doncler

Berlin-based Doncler dropped a nice club-like set.

Next up in our guest mix series is Doncler. A talent that started with a great passion for hip hop and slowly moved to the side of electronic music. A person, just like us, that has been recording cassettes, endlessly to get the right tracks in the order he wanted it. Fantastic times back in the days.

In this mix there is no hip hop to be found. Instead you are gettng served some nice tracks with a deeper edge all mixed together with a sound that relates to a fantastic club-sound. Enjoy!

Where are you from and what do you find inspirational about where you’re living?
I’m currently living in Berlin but originally come from a smaller town in North Rhine-Westphalia. For me is Berlin a very inspiring city, the culture of electronic music here is very pronounced and completely arrived in the society. In my case is Berlin the techno capital city worldwide. There are many nightclubs, so many that I do not know once. I love to live here and have access to the music infrastructure.

For people who don’t know much about you, could you tell us a bit about your music background? How did you fall down the music rabbit hole?
Music has accompanied me throughout my life, but everything has started with Hip Hop at the end of the 90s, at that time there were no CD’s. So I was forced with a cassette recorder to record music from the TV. Later I cut my favourite songs from several cassettes to a mixtape. When the Wu-Tang hype arrived Germany I came the first time in contact with scratches, from this time I wanted to be a DJ, but it took me a while until I had saved enough money to buy the legendary Technics 1210. That was the beginning.

Tell us a bit about early passions and influences? Is there something or someone who had a huge impact on you?
In 2001, I got the Mix “Banging The Box 5” from DJ Mastermind Bad Boy Bill, he combined professional DJ techniques with electronic music, I had never heard of such a thing before and became a fan. Afterwards, I switched completely to electronic music, at that time funky house, so I think he has the biggest influence.

What can we expect from your guest mix?
A Doncler set is a journey. I try to catch the listener with a unique sound. I really listen the most of the releases every day and spend a lot of time to find gold nuggets. I try to surprise listeners with music they do not know and hope to trigger positive emotions.

Fast forward 5 years. Where do you stand? What is one thing that would make your musical career more successful?
I started producing my own music and I hope that I get a larger fanbase in the future. In October I signed a label and management deal at a young agency named “Berlin Banger Records“. That is my chance to get a bigger international audience.

What’s the last thing you saw that made you smile?
What really impressed is the house music culture in Chicago, check the following video.

Thanks for the interview and enjoy my mix.
