Mischa’s passion for music shows

Passion for music, perseverance and fun will get you a long way. This psychology student from Hamburg has his thing going. Focussing on his studies first, music second. Even still it got him some gigs in China these days, which is awesome of course. We can only encourage Mischa to continue his studies but don’t give up his dream to become a DJ as his mix is fantastic!

Down to earth

Where are you from and what do you find inspirational about where you’re living?
I am born in the former Russian Federation but we immigrated to Germany when I was just 1 year old. The first 10 years we lived on an island located in the northeast part of Germany. After that, we moved to the Frankfurt area. To finish my German tour, I came to Hamburg 2 years ago to study and I don’t regret it the least. Hamburg has a special vibe that is difficult to describe. The people, the harbour, the whole city is really artistic in an authentic way. You can find anything you are looking for, but you also can avoid the things you don’t like. Hamburg feels balanced, just the perfect amount of everything.

What triggered or influenced you in being a DJ?
Well, first obviously the love for the music and the scene. Second, we just started mixing as a hobby with friends, and we keep playing together at this moment. No pressure to get anywhere in particular. Having fun and just taking it as it comes.

If I say China, what do you say?
The first thing in mind are my upcoming China Gigs at the end of December. I play three gigs in Shanghai and one festival in Wenzhou. Really excited about it. Heard a lot good things about the Chinese techno scene. But beside the music, I’m just excited to get out of my everyday routine for a while and experience some new culture, meet new people, eat good food and enjoy myself.

Where do you see yourself in 3 years from now?
Hopefully, I finish University and work as a psychologist while I’m playing some music during the weekends.
That would be perfect.

What is a hard part of the electronic music scene according to you?
There are a lot of DJs at the moment, so getting noticed is definitely harder than it used to be. Your output has to be very high, so you need a lot of time, which is obviously something I lack since I am in university. So for me, it’s time-management.

What can we expect from the mix you made?
The mix is a crossover between melodic, ethereal and techno tunes. I tried to create a sound that sets you adrift but soon after it hits you with some rougher tunes. All this supported by some hard basslines. If I need to label it I would call it Ethereal Techno.
