G.Markus – Hello My Name Is… (SM033)

Fairly unknown to us but seemingly G.Markus has a top edit made for D’Angelo a while ago. It With this he got the likes of Nick Monaco, Moodymanc and Wolf + Lamb. Not the least so to speak.

His first official release – his remix of Vibe Killers ‘Question Mark’ occurred last month. A deep & sexy slow paced track that’ll get your mood to happy mode and your hips gently swaying from left to right.

And now there is ‘Hello My Name Is…’, G.Markus’ real debut EP, with Soul Clap and Ripperton amongst its earliest supporters. The release is due June 29 on the great imprint from Barcelona called sinnmusik*. Known for their exquisite nose for talent.

He tried and tested ‘No Not In The Face!’ recently during his passage in Macarena (Barcelona) and it took the roof off. A chunky wiggling bassline thumps away under diva vocal edits, joyous organ chords and rolling percussion, making for a real fist-pumper. ‘About Last Night’ goes deeper, with shimmering, tripped-out Wurlitzers building the tension slowly before a snapping beat and a loosely funky bassline drop in. A kooky xylophone and cute synth motifs top the cake off.

Cutting and slicing has been done by Marsupials for the original ‘No Not In The Face!’. They’ve created a gently euphoric deep house workout. Melancholic rhythm patterns embellished with tightly coiled slithers of percussion.

C-Rock & Franksen created a more tech house flavoured edit. Sway it is.

Fasika turns in a superbly grubby little stomper on his ‘About Last Night’ rework, with Fewture & Freddie Glitch going for a hands-up-in-the-air approach. Nice dubbed out groove. The latter for sure is our favorite on this release. It’ll leave you shaking and screaming for more. Fantastic built up in the middle.
