TGMS Future Stars #70: Adelante

Munich-based DJ & producer duo, Adelante

This Munich-based duo music has always been a connection on a higher level that linked them just like invisible strings. At some point, it became a logical decision to leave the dancefloor and to reach out for the decks. The producer and DJ collective Adelante was born.

The name Adelante originates from the term that is widely used in Spain and South America and paraphrases “the way ahead” which is the subliminal credo of the boys. Lines drawn between single genres like Deep-, Tech-, Afro-House or Techno have effortlessly trespassed within their productions and DJ sets as they often contain moving and percussive elements as well as melodic and deep ones.

Being co-founder and resident at the unmuted events Adelante regularly performs at festivals and the famous Harry Klein Club in Munich.

In 2018 Adelante celebrated the official release of their first track “Benguela” published on the Ibiza based label Haustronaut. At the beginning of 2019, Adelante was proud to be part of the famous Papa Loko Event at the atmospheric Electrowerkz in the heart of London and published their energetic track “Barú” at Sweet Musique. This year will have further surprises!

where do you come from and what makes your place so special for you?
Both: We both come from the Munich suburbs and we always enjoyed the rich culture of the Bavarian capital as well as the beautiful nature close by. We may have been at different places for some time in our lives but we always came back to our home town.

How do you see the electronic music scene evolve in and around the city?
Due to the high costs for rent and living, culture and art have a difficult standing especially when it comes to a subculture like electronic music. Nevertheless, Munich has a pulsating club scene with very distinct venues, reaching from underground locations to fancy clubs.

What excites you the most as being a live artist/DJ/producer duo?
Sebastian: Being a DJ duo always is really exciting because you never know what your buddy is going to play next and how you are going to answer to his track selection. We seldom organize a set before we play. We usually decide spontaneously what we are going to play next depending on our mood and the vibe in the club. This podcast was freestyle too, by the way.

Sandro: For me being part of a duo means to share the most beautiful and funniest moments in the booth with a close friend.

How do you resolve conflicts?
Sandro: Which conflicts?
Sebastian: Yeah, which conflicts? We honestly don`t have much trouble …

Where does your passion for electronic music come from?
Both: Growing up, we experienced so many magic nights in the clubs. This was some kind of weekend vacation for our studying brains. If you connect something, in this case, electronic music, to such wonderful feelings it becomes love, I think.

How has your music been influenced by other artists, musicians, or life in general?
Sandro: As mentioned before we were influenced in every night, dancing to the set of a certain DJ. The ability to convert melancholy into a smile and a smile into trance was impressive and is still.

Sebastian: I spent many months in Africa. I think It was there where I got hooked up on tribal sounds and percussions. This is some influence that is mirrored in the tracks I choose for my sets and the tracks I produce.

What can we expect from the mix you made us?
Our podcast has a certain dramaturgy to keep the audience curious, a nice variation between powerful baselines, relaxing melodies and percussive tribal tunes.

What’s your favourite song to date?
One of our all-time favourites is: Be Svendsen – Solo para mi (Mollono.Bass Remix)
