Bosconi’s 50th release – an interview with Ennio and Fabio aka Minimono

Ennio and Fabio aka Minimono

Minimono was born in Florence in 1997 as a multimedia project involving experimentation through music installations, graphic design and theatre performances. Only later, in 2002 when DJ Fabio Della Torre met rock&roll drummer and electronic producer Ennio Colaci, Minimono became an exclusive and passionate music project.

Their intent was melting their personal music experiences into fresh techno productions with minimal experiments, still keeping a very pleasant funky house touch and combining dancefloor functionality with emphasis on melody and mood.

Minimono’s unconditioned effort to support and develop the local electronic scene eventually grabbed the attention of the hometown’s legendary Tenax Club and its respective label, Tenax Records.

After contributing with a powerful track and ep’s on the Parisian Telegraph Records, minimono released also on other labels such as Tuningspork, Ethique, Safari Electronique, Loveletters From Oslo.

Their live sets has struck people’s attention for its dynamism, richness of electronic textures and from the duo’s ability to manipulate on the action a wide range of samples.

Where are you both writing from?

We are writing from logout records, the new record shop in Florence city centre.

How did you two meet? is this how your partnership and collaboration started?

We met in the Exmud club in 2001 through mutual friends with whom we joined the Sonar festival together. They introduced us to one another. We became friends and just sat and started producing together!

What genres and influences are part of your creative process as a duo?

Many influences come from our different backgrounds, starting from industrial electronic to house music, and also from funk, disco but also post-punk, prog rock.

Fabio, you just opened a record store. How did this new adventure come about and what are the plans for the future?

Yes indeed, it’s a really good adventure and makes us also understand how the vinyl market is evolving and where it is going.

We have a few releases planned. Along with these two latest EPs on Bosconi records we are soon releasing an EP on US electronic label TerraFirm under a brand new pseudonym “Impulse Translation”. We just created it for the occasion.

Furthermore, we have other two releases planned for quite some time. One on the Italian Vibraphone records and another on Portuguese Inner Balance, sub label of Chez Damier’s Balance alliance. Hpefully they will see the light before the end of the year.

What’s the plan for the next 50 Bosconi releases?

Only time will tell. 🙂 At this moment, we are also focusing on our own productions and on the Bosconi 15 years new Stallions compilation also coming before the end of the year!

If you could pick one from the catalogue, which one would it be and why?

Not only because we just mentioned it but we have been pretty happy about the latest Bosconi Stallions compilation, the vol. 2. It is a quite heterogeneous one where each track kind of stands out. The more time passes the more we like that one!

Thank you.
