Following this momentum, MYLAMINE returns with “Kindred Soul” released on Electronic Brew Records. This groove-laced, heartfelt house gem continues his signature style—lush, jazzy chords, warm basslines, and a sense of nighttime romance—perfectly suited for sunset patios or late-night sets.
Your new single “Kindred Soul” continues your soulful and jazzy style — what mood or inspiration guided you in its creation?
This song in particular was a little bit different. I didn’t feel the need to add any wild chord changes or take it off on a tangent. Instead, I wanted to focus on building a strong, heavy melody that could stand on its own. The goal was to create something catchy and memorable — almost like an earworm — that keeps pulling you back in because the melody sticks with you.
Your music always balances deep emotion with vibrant groove. How do you maintain that equilibrium between heartfelt depth and dancefloor energy?
I’ve always made music for myself first. It’s a very personal and organic process — usually my emotions or feelings spark the foundation of a track. From there, I develop those emotions but also layer in a strong house groove to give it movement and energy. For me, it’s always a balancing act: I want to stay soulful and underground, but I also want the music to be accessible so that anyone can connect with it and enjoy it.
Jazz is a strong influence in your sound. Was there a specific artist or moment in your life that sparked this passion?
Yes, absolutely. I actually played upright jazz bass when I was younger, and during that time I got deeply into artists like Charles Mingus. That sound really stuck with me. Ever since then I’ve been drawn to anything with a jazzy edge, and when I’m creating, I naturally try to bring some of that feel and character into my own music.
Recently you’ve received support from names like Jazzanova and been featured on Apple Music and DJ Mag. How have these recognitions impacted your artistic journey?
Getting cosigns and features is always a great feeling. My first goal is to make music that I genuinely enjoy and would play myself. My second goal is to share that joy with others. Recognition helps amplify that reach — it allows me to connect with more listeners and hopefully give them the same kind of escape and happiness that I feel when I’m making the music.
“Kindred Soul” feels perfect for both sunset patios and late-night sets. Do you think about the context in which your music will be played while producing?
Yes, I do. The settings you mentioned are actually what I picture when I’m creating. I don’t set out to make high-energy, peak-hour tracks — my music tends to come in after that moment, when people are winding down or finding their groove again. I’ve always been a very relaxed, chilled-out person, and I think that naturally comes across in the sound I create.
Looking back at “Find My Way” and “Setting Sun”, what sonic direction do you feel you’ve solidified, and what areas are you still eager to explore?
Those two tracks really helped me solidify the core of my sound. It’s not that every track will sound exactly like them, but they gave me a strong foundation and a clear idea of what I truly love to make. From here, I’m excited to keep evolving within that space — exploring new textures, grooves, and ways to bring even more emotion into my music while keeping that soulful, jazzy base intact.
Your sound is described as both timeless and deeply personal. How does your everyday life find its way into your music?
For me, music is always tied to what I’m living through. Whether I’m going through a high or a low, it naturally finds its way into my tracks. In the same way a lyricist tells their story through words, I tell mine through melodies, grooves, and textures. It’s my way of documenting life and turning it into something other people can feel.
Thank you!
