TGMS Future Stars #59: Tridex

Tridex

TRIDEX is the contraction of the words “three decks”, which means the fusion of formats and technologies used by Javier Farfán to create a journey through sensations and textures. He never stays on one shape of Techno or House; always tries to navigate across several shapes of every genre he loves at different BPM. Has published music with record labels such as Magic Soul Records, Nature Music, TecnoMind Music and Silenzio Records, from his own country and some original mixes and remixes.

He has been around since 2004 when he started to learn how to DJ after being a Hip-hop, Punk-influenced street musician. He developed great technique mixing genres like Trance, Industrial, Electro, and EBM. His music and DJ sets are hypnotic, euphoric, sensitive and deep at the same time, doing a perfect mix of technologies such as Ableton Live, turntables and CDJ’s live.

Where are you from (city/area) and what makes that place special?
I’m from Bogotá, Colombia. This city quickly became a must-visit spot for every touring DJ worldwide, so I had the pleasure to be in so many raves around the country and learned a lot of what I’ve seen. Bogotá is a grey, cold city so strong music takes place very well here. That’s my main influence.

What excites you the most as being a DJ/producer?
The pleasure of doing something that makes people happy, really.

How has your music been influenced by other artists, musicians, or life in general?
My older brother was one of the first skaters of my city in the 80’s, so a lot of Punk, Grunge and Hip-Hop music came along. The skate and growing hip-hop and punk scene gave me enough influences to love electronic music many years later.

What is your source for finding great tracks for your set?
Radio stations, friend suggestions, podcasts and the vinyl store, of course. I love to play classics and that requires a lot of research through Discogs to find a good vinyl in mint condition. For digital, i prefer Juno Download.

Describe some of the feelings you have when you are behind the decks.
I always feel anxiety before performing. A lot of nerves and expectative but the crowd makes you feel relax and do what you have to do. I let the crowd drive me along the rave, that’s what I’m DJ.

What can we expect from the mix you made us?
Is very special because many of the tracks chosen was a birthday gift from a friend. He bought them on Beatport and pass them to me. I chose the best of them for this session. Most important of all, I’m glad to introduce you my first single ‘Antítesis’, published as an independent artist, and ‘En Vela’, a song I wrote while I was desperate and sleepless once. Now it got signed by local label Silenzio Records, soon to be out on vinyl.

What makes you happy (besides music)?
Sports, nature, teaching, animals and motorbikes. I love them all.

Thank you!
