Hey Tim, let’s get to know each other a bit better. Where are you from and what do you find inspirational about where you’re living?

I come from Ghent but moved to Aalst 2 years ago. Especially because it is quieter here in the neighborhood where I live and I can fully focus on my music and be together with my girlfriend.

For fans who don’t know much about you, could you tell us a bit about your music background? How did you fall down the music rabbit hole?

I actually rolled into it very unconsciously. I used to party quite a lot and that is how I started getting to know people who were already active as a DJ. Then I actually got more and more the taste of the music. After a while, I bought my first mixing console and started practising. I got the chance to sign with We Are Music Agency. Beautiful things are coming your way, for which I am grateful to them. I also have my own events called Melodia that I organise together with the DJ duo Moodtronic.

Find out more about We Are Music on Facebook.

What motivated you to get into production?

Making your own tracks is not easy. But if you want to achieve something in your life you have to take risks and this is one of them. Being able to create your own sounds is one of the happiest things there is. Started taking classes and took it from there, from Youtube to online courses. I was very lucky that I got help from other producers like Gelaude, AMP, Adjust (BE). Lucky that I can also ask for help and advice from the emerging duo as Senses of Mind. Those people put me on my way to producing my own tracks.

How would you describe your sound and style?

I mainly play melodic techno and progressive house. But I do like to mix up these genres to have my sound and energy. I like a heavy kick and sounds in a track. you can always find my mood in the set that I play.

What releases have you planned for the near future that you can tell us about?

I have some releases planned. Also projects I am working on to possibly release in the future. The intention is that you bring quality and quality takes time.

Here are some previews already:

What’s your creative process when writing music? Do you have an idea in mind or do you somehow experiment and see what’s coming?

I mainly get a lot of inspiration from tracks of other producers. And above all continue to experiment and find my own sound. I think there is always time and room for improvement. The more you try and experiment the more you learn and that makes you richer in the knowledge of music.

For most artists, originality is first preceded by a phase of learning and, often, emulating others. What was this like for you?

I think I am still in my learning phase and I believe I am very modest about that too. For the time being, I especially watch a lot of videos and get inspiration from other producers. Trying to be busy almost every day to understand what it all means. It’s not just making a track like most people think. There is much more to it than that.

How would you describe your own development as Tumzz and the transition towards your own voice? What is the relationship between copying, learning and your own creativity?

Copying someone is already very difficult and is something I certainly wouldn’t want. I try to learn a lot in every field of music and also trying to develop my own sound and style for which people would get to know me. Today there is so much animosity and competition between everyone that you really have to have something to stand out. Do what you love most and keep growing is the message. Dreams are there and if you work hard for them you will be rewarded one day. As long as everything happens with your heart and passion, you will achieve a lot.

What can we expect from the mix you made?

Above all, it will be energizing. Something I want to be known for. I love to play tracks with vocals and crazy sounds. Try to make my own mark. Hopefully, I can already please you with this mix.

Which 5 tracks ultimately are the favourites of your life.

Tummz – Timur is up for grabs on Beatport.

Thank you!
