Future Stars #02: Joey Domingo

Future Stars - Joey Domingo

Hot slices of techno by Joey Domingo

Only recently we had our first future star, Marat Mode, dropping us a really nice soulful mix. Now, we’d like to present to you our second guest in this series. A DJ that knows how to select his tracks to create a swampy and sweaty dancefloor environment. He originates from The Netherlands, lives in Belgium with a view on his homeland in a quiet environment. Perfect place to create fantastic music.

Meet Joey Domingo ladies and gentlemen. He made us a mix with slices of red-hot underground techno. The mix takes off at a slow pace but it won’t take long to descend deeper into the underground. No time for cooling down with this one.

Enjoy the mix and short Q&A below.

Short chat with Joey Domingo

Where are you from?
I am from The Netherlands, Rotterdam to be precise. About 5 years ago I moved to a city near the Dutch border, Maaseik to live there with my girlfriend. From my garden, I keep a view on my homeland which is nice.

What do you find inspirational about where you’re living?
Maaseik is a fairly small city. Really small compared to a metropole like London for example. But I here in the countryside where I often go out for a walk. I get my inspiration from the view I have from my garden towards the Netherlands as said before.

What can we expect from you in 2018?
From the age of 10, I played the organ and later switched to keyboard. Later, at the age of twelve, I got what appeared to me, a bizarre stereo from my parents. A Marantz with a turntable, radio and tape recorder. A present from heaven as from then on I was busy with music day and night.

Could you tell us a bit about your music background? When did you start DJing/producing?
For about 1,5 year now I am a professional DJ, and I have been fortunate to be able to play at great parties in the Netherlands and Belgium. More to come in the near and mid-term future. Surprisingly, I also got to play on the magic island, Ibiza, last September.

What or who are your passions and influences?
I am inspired by the music of The Doors, music from the 60´s, Jean-Michel Jarre and Vangelis from the 70´s. Fascinated by the pioneering synth-pop bands as New Order, Yazoo and Depeche Mode in the 80´s.

What can we expect from the mix you made?
My mix is a beautiful musical journey with a danceable underground Techno sound. There are also 2 tracks with a special meaning. One with a reference to the Detroit Techno scene in 1988 (Inner City – Big Fun) and one track from Leftfield with the delicious raw vocal of John Lydon (better known as Johnny Rotten of the Sex Pistols).

What can we expect from you in 2018?
2018 will be a beautiful & musical journey with many performances in Belgium, The Netherlands and abroad. And I will have two nice surprises coming up this year … so keep in touch and follow me on social media for more information!
