Interview with Belgian talented DJ & producer, Adjust (BE).

Carving the Void: How Adjust (BE) Balances Atmosphere and Drive

After years of drifting through the underground, a collision with techno in 2016 set Adjust (BE) on a focused, high-voltage path. Armed with rumbling low end, propulsive groove, and a quiet obsession for craft, he formalized his foundations at Belgium’s MUSICASA before landing early releases on melodic imprints like SMR Underground, Melodia Records, Tanzgemeinschaft, and Papaya Music. But the deeper he produced and performed, the clearer his compass became: melody alone wasn’t the destination.

In 2022, Adjust pivoted toward the hypnotic axis—atmospheric, textural, and immersive—chasing inner stillness and dynamic balance. The result: standout cuts on scene pillars DORIAN, The Gods Planet, BAHN, Khoros, Informa, Space Textures, Arcadia, and more in the pipeline. Off the dance floor, he’s nurtured community through curation: first with “Adjust (BE) Invites” (130+ episodes, 2020–2023), then with “Andhera”a deep-techno series aligned with full moons and eclipses, featuring artists who embody techno’s dark, ambient, and emotional core.

His signature? A finely carved equilibrium between light and shadow—cinematic, melancholic, and spiritually charged soundscapes that reveal themselves only when you fully surrender.

Are you ready to… adjust your mind

Hey Ruben,

How are things these days?

Hi Claudio, happy to be back on the series, thank you for that! Apart from trying to manage a full-time job, moving to a new place together with my partner, and squeezing in some time to produce, everything is going great. Exciting times and ready for a new chapter in our lives.

Let’s jump right into Adjust (BE). There was a change in setup, from a duo to a solo artist. What happened?

Mathias and I had some conversations about ‘how’ we saw the project for the future, and it became clear that we both had a different view on it, which is not a bad thing. Since we’ve known each other for over 15 years, we’ll always respect each other’s opinions and feelings, even today. At that point, we were standing at a crossroads. Stop the project or go solo. As you’ve probably guessed already, I’ve chosen to go solo on the project because I felt this was far from over.

Your style evolved from Melodic Techno to Deep, Hypnotic & Atmospheric Techno. Why the change?

After a few releases on labels such as SMR Underground, Melodia Records, Papaya Records and Tanzgemeinschaft of course, I felt like the melodic techno scene/genre was not my place anymore. I wanted to go deeper, darker, away from the (in my opinion) mainstream sounds. I ended up listening to tracks from Revenänt, Claudio PRC, Luigi Tozzi, Alexskyspirit, Van Morph, and a whole new world opened up. It was deep, dark, mysterious, powerful, and yet it had all the emotions I was looking for.

That change was not a bad move, seeing the number of releases you have had so far. How do you connect with the right labels according to your taste?

It actually flowed pretty naturally. I’ve started producing tracks, changing my type of playing, and I’ve got a lot of new connections from the start. Of all the releases I’ve done so far, I only had to send tracks to a label to apply like 2 or 3 times. All the other releases were through connecting and talking to like-minded artists. I have a list of labels that I know and trust, and a small list of labels with whom I don’t want to work, based on my own feelings and how the label profiles itself. Intuition is the key element here for me.

Let’s discuss some of your recent releases. Which ones are out and on which labels?

This year I’ve really had an amazing year, releasing on labels which were high on my list and a release (DERAILED RECORDS) we did from A ‘till Z in just 4 weeks, meaning, finishing the ideas, getting the remixers, the mastering and promo, insane when a plan comes together!

Before that release, I had the most emotional so far on ARCADIA AUDIO from Repart, a V/A participation on KHOROS RECORDS, a remix for Sydor’s ‘Vexatious Flux’ on KITCHENSYNC RECORDS, the long-awaited collaboration EP with Revenänt on Fernie’s SPACE TEXTURES, another V/A for LOTUS PARABLE, the massive release on Deepbass’ INFORMA RECORDS and many more before that.

What’s more to come, release-wise?

At this point, I’m getting the masters checked for a solo EP on AFFINED DARK SCIENCE. A few remixes are coming up, and lastly, the highly anticipated LP release with Cauê will finally see the light of day after the summer. Especially the last one is a brilliant piece of work. I don’t want to say too much about it. But I can tell you it’s the biggest project I’ve worked on so far. The process taught me so much, and Cauê is one brilliant producer. I can tell you that much.

Do you have any rituals or habits that help spark your creativity? Did anything change over time?

In my productions and my daily life, I’m always looking for ‘the feeling’ or ‘the emotion’ behind things, and I’m trying to convert that current state-of-emotion into my tracks. Rarely do I start a track with an idea; my track’s basic foundation is emotion. From that emotional build (mostly huge ambient pads or moving leads from side to side), I’m crafting the other elements around it and making it an emotional journey, a typical Adjust (BE) track.

How do you stay inspired and keep your sound fresh in a constantly evolving industry?

I used to say that attending masterclasses, checking YouTube videos or subscribing to Patreon pages would keep you learning and evolving. And in a certain way, it’s still a good way to learn new things. Only in recent years I have been getting so much more energy and learning new skills through collaborating with other artists, talking and exchanging ideas. Besides that, I’m spending time in huge mastering studios like the one from my mastering engineer, Pattrn and the one and only Wizard of Ghent, Wanton. Not so much to learn mastering or wanting to do my own masters, no, just to get to know ‘what it is’ and ‘how’ to give the mastering engineer ‘the perfect pre-master’ and how they proceed from there so that they don’t have so much work to do.

And lastly, are there any trends or sounds in electronic music right now that excite you besides your own sound?

To be honest with you, Claudio, not so much. There are a few genres that have the upper hand, let’s say. And I feel there’s not much space for our/my genre, which in my opinion, deserves a lot more attention. Even though a lot of my colleagues, including myself, are releasing insanely crafted EPs, albums, and so on, we are struggling to get decent bookings and get the recognition the genre deserves.

It’s an overall issue when speaking to the deep and hypnotic techno artists. And at the same time, I’m always very happy and pleased to see colleagues getting booked or released on big labels. So, I think that’s what excites me and what’s one of my strongest points, even when I’m not the one getting getting booked or if I don’t have a pending release, I’ll be as happy for my colleagues as I would be for myself.

Thank you
