In Conversation With DNKLE

With Obscurite, DNKLE invites listeners into a hauntingly cinematic world where desolation and elegance merge in hypnotic harmony. The track is a visceral dive into a post-apocalyptic landscape—one that pulses with tension, yet glows with raw, melodic beauty. As he continues to expand his sonic identity, Obscurite marks a bold evolution in DNKLE’s creative journey, weaving together his deep-rooted emotional sensibilities and a fearless push toward the obscure. In this conversation, he opens up about the genesis of the track, the guiding philosophy behind GITA Recordings, and the deeper spiritual forces shaping his art.

‘Obscurite’ feels powerful and hypnotic — what was the first spark that set this track in motion?

The spark that set this in motion was painting a picture of a post-apocalyptic realm where tension and beauty co-exist in perfect harmony.

If you had to describe the feeling or scene that ‘Obscurite’ paints for listeners, what would it be?

Through this release painting a picture is painted of a post-apocalyptic realm where tension and beauty co-exist in perfect harmony.

Compared to your earlier work, where do you feel ‘Obscurite’ pushes you creatively?

It goes beyond the atypical structure and moves towards a more raw approach. The synthesis I have done to create a palette of sounds that are just as Obscure to resonate with the theme of the track. I have also tried to showcase that with each release, you can expect a distinct approach yet a familiar DNKLE.

When you’re in the studio, what usually comes first for you — the mood, the melody, or the rhythm?

Depending on the approach I have, but I prefer, in most cases, to go with rhythm as it is a driving force in Dance Music. In certain cases when melody is approached first,t I derive inspiration from the possibilities of various Automations I would add to make the melody evolve.

How has launching GITA Recordings changed the way you approach making and releasing music?

A platform to release music is the best way to express yourself. With GITA, I have found my truest and most honest approach to making music; from the theme chosen to the press plan, everything is aligned with the overall vision of GITA.

What first pulled you toward the deeper, more emotional side of electronic music?

I think meeting and finding the approach that many global icons have is what made me gravitate to this side. I feel conversations with artists like SOLEE, JONAS SAALBACH, FELIX RAPHAEL & NILLS HOFFMAN, gave me an insight that being a Producer and Performer can both be achieved without compromising on the quality of either.

Growing up in New Delhi, what sounds or moments shaped the way you hear and create music today?

There was a lot of House Music from record labels like DEFECTED, TOOLROOM & DIYNAMIC. And with Indian acts like BLOT (IN), KOHRA, DJ MASH, MIDIVIAL PUNDITZ & JALEBEE CARTEL, I was able to experience a wide variety of sounds ranging from Techno to Drum & Bass.

In a world full of fast trends, how do you stay grounded in your sound and vision?

I’m committed to the learnings of GITA, I would like to answer a part of our Adhyay Amrit series, which are verses from the GITA we share regularly for our followers. “Unwavering devotion to Me, living in quiet places, and dislike for crowds- this is true knowledge.” [ Chapter 13 | Verse 11]

GITA Recordings feels like more than just a label — what story are you hoping to tell through it?

GITA is a timeless collection of teachings, and in our vast world, there are infinite learnings, we hope to be the musical and spiritual guides to true experiences beyond the atypical, not just a label that introduces new leaders & tales to the world but provides insight as to what it takes to become one.

As you look ahead, what’s most exciting to you about the next chapter of DNKLE?

I really am looking forward to releasing more music and announcing my newest collaborations! Some of the work I do as DNKLE may be very diverse, such as film scores and global brand campaign audio. This new chapter of life entails a lot more travel, learning, and time with family is my only hope.
