Some quick-fire questions for Boy Oh Boy

Hailing from Germany and France, Boy Oh Boy AKA New Zealand’s new kids on the block, started their adventure together back in 2016 when they both swiped right.

Coming from very different musical backgrounds, the duo deliver a mix of dancefloor, gymnastic-friendly techno and underground drinking music.

In 2017, Beat&Path hooked the boys up with their very first EP – Ban Joe. Their ghost-producing team delivered a jacked-up club vibe with an infectious Banjo hook. The highly acclaimed banger made its way to festival stages all across the world.

Boy Oh Boy quickly became one of Auckland’s faves, charming their way into the hearts of boys and girls with their good-looking profile pictures and polite way of responding to love letters.

One might wonder how the boys have been so lucky to perform at boat parties, clubs and festivals alongside international artists such as Steve Bug, Kink, Bontan, Djuma Soundsystem, Out Of Sorts and Uone.

We served them some quick-fire questions to find out some more.

Hey guys, what are you up to right now?

Mostly surfing and chilling in the sun.

When & how did you first get involved with music?

When David went to one of Marco’s first gig in a nightclub in Auckland in 2017. Marco’s artist name was just “Boy” at the time. We quickly noticed our common taste in music, became friends, and soon after sat together in the studio to produce a horrible track together. You gotta start somewhere.

Which track did you recently rediscover?

Boy Oh Boy, Mount Mike -Para Onde

In your view, what were/are your biggest challenges in the music industry?

Too many male people who take themselves way too seriously!

What inspires you?

The sounds of nature and a bit of yoga. 😉

What’s the most embarrassing moment that happened during a DJ set?

One time Marco accidentally pressed pause in the middle of the set in front of hundreds of people. We embraced the moment, smiled, remained calm, hit play again and sent an excuses letter afterwards.

Is there any work you’re particularly proud of?

The first track we ever produced together was called “Suvi” but unfortunately, no record labels even wanted to hear about it. We wonder why.

Can you write me a haiku about your week?

chilling in the sun
with beers and a lot of fun
boy oh boy, boy oh

If you would get matching tattoos, what would they be?

Not a match but Marco has David’s name tattooed already and vice versa…

What’s the best thing about being 22?

Innocence

And the worst?

You’re almost 23

If you could time warp yourself to any point in history when would it be, who would you hang out with?

Britney Spears because “Toxic” is one of the best-produced tracks in the world!

Cheers!
