Fiona Kraft

Interview with Fiona Kraft

Fiona Kraft has always been surrounded by music, having started playing piano as a child. As a teenager, she fell in love with DJing and clubbing. In 2014 she began playing records and doing weekly residencies in clubs in Lyon.

Fiona Kraft has developed a distinctive style by blending an afro-house vibe and tight progressive beats with euphoric breaks. Her unique sound has led to opportunities to share decks with some of the biggest names in electronic music, including Black Coffee, Guy Gerber, Red Axes, Blond:ish, and Miss Kittin.

In 2022, Fiona’s music took her across the globe, playing in 15 different countries in Asia, Europe, and South America. The year’s highlights included a b2b set with Black Coffee at HI in Ibiza, playing for Guy Gerber’s Rumors at Destino Arena in Buenos Aires, a tour in India, and early morning b2b with Red Axes in Tel Aviv in front of 15.000 people.

In 2023 Fiona Kraft is scheduled to play at Fabric in London, Black Coffee’s opening party at Hi Ibiza, Watergate in Berlin, Caprices Festival in Switzerland and Untold Festival in Romania.

When she’s not on the road, Fiona spends time producing music in her studio in Ibiza, where she draws inspiration from the Balearic vibe and magnetic beauty of the island.

Hey Fiona, thanks for talking to us today – how’s the year been treating you so far?

Thank you 🙂

The year was very rich in experience and very intense for me. I had a chance to play in many new countries and at the end of the year I’ll do an Asian tour and then finally do some shows in South Africa. I’m very excited about that.

First of all, we want to get to know you “from the beginning”. How did your history with music begin?

My story with music began at a very young age as my father is a professional musician. I started with piano lessons very early. My love for electronic music exploded when I was a teenager and I sneaked into a club for the first time, I guess that is when I fell in love with deejaying.

Tell us about living in Ibiza – how long have you been there and what are the best and worst bits of life on the island?

I’ve been living on the island for the last 2 years. The best times are when I have a weekend off and I have some friends over. The worst is the winter when it’s too humid and the laundry doesn’t dry. 😉

What gear do you use in the studio to make your music?

I always look out for new gear. But in the end, I really feel comfortable with Machine mk3 to create loops and beats, and then record the Moog sub 37 for bass and leads. I use Ableton as a primary daw but sometimes I’d use Logic as well because I love its arpeggiator.

What defines your sound, what made the signature?

I would say it’s minor chord progressions and piano and the distinctive sound of percussion. These elements are always arranged in Fiona Kraft style.

What is the best advice you ever received as an artist?

I have benefited from my mentors and their wisdom throughout my career and I revived many life-changing advice. But if I need to take out one particular advice related to deejaying then it would be this: “don’t care about what other people think, trust yourself and your intuition”.

What should we be looking out for from you in the next few months?

I’m looking forward to my Asian tour in November. Also Pacha Festival in Argentina on 25th November where I am going to play with Paul Oakenfold. Even more a weekend in South Africa where I will play two shows with Black Coffee. Early next year there are going to be new releases that I’m currently finishing.

Thank you.

It matters little whether you are an artist or a visitor, the love for music is the unifying factor.
