Pablo Garza presents eclectic vibes

Pablo Garza: From the Tulum jungle to TGMS presents

Pablo Garza started DJing around Tulum in 2010, back when he was still visiting from Mexico City, and has lived there since 2017. The jungle, the cenotes and the Caribbean coast run through everything he plays, but never in the way you might expect.

For TGMS presents Pablo Garza, he set up on a slow afternoon by a lagoon outside town and let the tempo climb without ever losing the tropical calm. In this Pablo Garza interview, we talk about that mix, the landscape around him and a night in Cancun where everyone truly danced.

Pablo Garza on recording at Nopalitos Lagoon

Take us back to when you recorded your mix. Where were you, and what mood were you trying to capture?

It was recorded a few weeks ago on a beautiful afternoon at Neek a gorgeous, chilled spot located in Nopalitos Lagoon a few kilometres from Tulum.

If someone listens to your mix from start to finish, where should they end up compared to where they began? Tell us about the arc you had in mind.

Actually, this mix gets a bit faster gradually, BPM-wise, but my intention that day was to keep the chilled tropical lagoon vibes all the way.

You live near Tulum, surrounded by jungle, cenotes and the sea. How much of that landscape ends up in the music you play and pick, and how much do you have to shut out?

I have lived in Tulum since 2017 and started DJing in the area (visiting when I was living in Mexico City) around 2010, so YES, obviously the jungle, beach and the Mayan energy affect and reflect on my music style. Still, I was never influenced by this 2014 South American Shamanic native feathers weirdo wizard sound (Mexico is North America); I just never got it, hehe. Sure, my taste can be a bit Tropical, Latin and Caribbean, but also Alien even a bit darker sometimes.

Tulum, the dancefloor and what comes next

What’s a gig from the past few months that stayed with you? Tell us about the room, the crowd and the moment it clicked.

Also, a few weeks ago at Amarula in Cancun, the night was super pleasant and everyone was having fun, truly dancing without posing, playing lots of house in different subgenres, and people responded amazingly.

What are you digging into right now, whether that’s records, sounds or your own productions, and where can people catch you behind the decks next?

Production wise were taking a little break this year after releasing several EPs in different labels in the last year’s. But I’m still hooked on the digging almost every day hehe, and in recent times mostly house in different subgenres, a bit of electro, dub techno and chilled stuff, new and old. Next record gigs will be at the Bangkok Community Radio and live ones hopefully here in the Mexican Caribbean and maybe in other parts of the country for Holidays, to be confirmed 👍

At Tanzgemeinschaft, we love a mix that doesn’t rush, and this one takes its time. Press play above, let the lagoon do its work, and catch Pablo next on Bangkok Community Radio.

Thank you!
