Exclusive Interview: FunkT!de

Blending groove-led house music with emotive melodies and immersive atmospheres, FunkT!de has been quietly carving out a distinct space within the contemporary electronic landscape. Drawing influence from organic instrumentation, warm analog textures, and the emotional pull of the dancefloor, his productions balance energy with subtlety, combining driving rhythms with a strong sense of mood and musical storytelling.

His latest project sees him collaborating with Sunora on Echoes of Light, the debut release on the duo’s newly launched label, Suncture. Built around a shared appreciation for warmth, movement, and emotionally resonant club music, the EP brings together the musical identities of both artists across a collection of deeply atmospheric and groove-focused tracks.

In conversation with Tanzgemeinschaft, FunkT!de discusses the origins of the collaboration, the creative dynamic behind the release, and his perspective on making intentional music in an increasingly fast-moving electronic landscape. He also reflects on the evolving vision of Suncture and what it means to be part of the label’s very first chapter.

How did your collaboration with Sunora on Echoes of Light come about, and what was the dynamic like in the studio?

I had been following Sunora for quite a long time — their musical taste always resonated with me. I was especially inspired by what they were building through their events in Bali and Thailand. There was always this quiet idea in the back of my mind that one day we might create something together — something with a unique character.

At the time, they were actively touring, so we worked remotely, sending project files back and forth. Even without being in the same room, the process felt very natural. There was a strong mutual understanding, and that made the collaboration flow easily.

What drew you to the sound and direction of this project, and how does it connect with your own musical identity?

I’ve always been drawn to groovy house music — that’s the foundation. But what really matters to me is when that groove carries emotion.

I’m inspired by the combination of organic and electronic elements: real percussion, strings, brass, blended with warm, full-bodied synths and an airy, driving kick. Vocals also play an important role — sometimes soft and delicate, sometimes deeper, almost whispered, pulling you into the rhythm.

This project reflects exactly what I look for in music: energy with feeling, movement with atmosphere. It’s a sound that speaks without needing to shout.

Each track on the EP has a distinct mood while still feeling cohesive. How did you approach shaping that balance together?

I think this balance comes from experience — years of listening, creating, and understanding the dance floor. The Sunora guys have a very refined sense of that as well.

We wanted each track to have its own mood, but still feel like part of one story. At the same time, we believe in taking our time. Some tracks take weeks — we return to them again and again, refining details until everything feels right.

Especially now, when there’s so much fast and AI-driven music, we wanted to focus on something more intentional. Music should speak for itself. We trust that this approach will resonate with listeners who connect with house and indie dance on a deeper level.

What elements of the collaboration pushed you creatively or took you somewhere new in your production process?

I feel like this is just the beginning — there’s still a lot of evolution ahead for us.

We try not to follow trends, but rather to shape our own direction. For me, the key idea is to give as much energy as possible into every track, and hopefully receive that energy back through people — in their reactions, their smiles, and of course, on the dancefloor.

At the same time, I’d love to see our music travel further — not only reaching listeners, but also finding its way into the sets of artists around the world. That exchange of energy is what keeps everything alive.

With this release launching Sunora’s new label Suncture, how does it feel to be part of that first chapter?

It feels like the beginning of something meaningful. I truly believe this project has strong potential, and I’m very happy to be part of it as a resident artist.

From my side, I just want to keep bringing an honest groove and continue growing within the music. There’s always a desire to leave a mark — even a small one — and to contribute to the culture we love.

I also hope listeners will connect with this journey and become part of it. That kind of mutual energy is what makes everything worthwhile.
