Los Angeles, California-based duo, 22prime

TGMS Future Stars #69: 22prime. Good vibes.

Formerly known as Admonic & Davies, 22prime has been reincarnated in the LA underground. Originally from New York, the east coast duo enjoyed stints in Barcelona/Ibiza before returning to the U.S. to plant their roots in Los Angeles. After quickly making a name for themselves in LA and launching a mix series of their own, prime cuts, 22prime released their debut track on Haustronaut Records last summer, marking the duo’s transition from their progressive upbringing to the deeper sound they have today. Based in the Milky Way’s Orion Arm, they’re not always easy to find, but you can hear them from light-years away.

A few questions to get to know 22prime

Where do you come from and what makes your place so special for you?
Los Angeles, California. When you have 329 days of summer every year and you’re surrounded by mountains, deserts, and ocean, every day is special.

How do you see the electronic music scene evolve in and around the city?
It’s grown considerably as electronic music has taken the centre stage across the U.S. Its effect is two-fold: more and more electronic music in the mainstream and more fuel to keep the underground scene vibrant.

What excites you the most as being a DJ/producer (duo)?
Any time a song gives us goosebumps (even after playing it 100 times). Can’t beat that feeling.

How does the collaboration process work for you guys?
Our taste and style have been pretty closely aligned since the two of us were playing solo 8 years ago, so we’re often on the same page. When we’re not, we fight like a married couple, but we haven’t filed for divorce … yet.

Where does your passion for electronic music come from?
Both of us were introduced to electronic music at a fairly young age and made our way through every subgenre you can think of before landing on the sound we embody today. For Adam, it began with Hardstyle and Hip-Hop before his House and Techno infatuation came to life. On the other hand, I [Jonny] first fell in love with Trance before Hardstyle then eventually House and Techno pretty much took over.

How has your music been influenced by other artists, musicians, or life in general?
Anything that makes us pause and appreciate life is an influence. We’re inspired by love, time spent in nature, dancing, laughing, and of course a good sunset.

What can we expect from the mix you made us?
A journey through warm melodies and building progressive energy, topped off with a disco treat for dessert.

Name one track that gets the dance floor moving all the time?
Joe Brunning – Now Let Me See You Work

Thank you
